All is not well in the land of the rooster, it seems. A lawsuit filed by the city of Irwindale, California, alleges the factory that produces Sriracha hot sauce produces a spicy odor so pungent it causes “burning eyes, irritated throats, and headaches” for area residents, the L.A. Times reports.

“Given how long it’s going on, we had no choice but to institute this action,” said Irwindale City Attorney Fred Galante.

According to Gallante, representatives from Huy Fong, the company behind the sauce, were initially receptive to complaints, but eventually grew uncooperative, arguing that if their employees could withstand the spice, so could residents.

Whether the incident will dry up any of Huy Fong’s seemingly endless supply of public goodwill remains to be seen.
