Street Art Collides With Dance:
Les Ballets de Faile Studio Visit

January 29, 2013 | Bucky Turco

In what has to be one of the most unlikely collaborations between street art and something else, here is “Les Ballets de Faile.” The upcoming exhibition features the work of Brooklyn-based art duo Faile and the New York City Ballet. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a 40-foot tower installation made from painted (and silkscreened) wood panels with imagery culled in part the from the ballet company’s historical archives, which are apparently located in an underground vault near Wall Street. A series of Faile paintings will also be displayed at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater through February 24. Additionally, there will be two dance performances on February 1 and May 29.

ANIMAL caught up with Faile at their Greenpoint studio as they were busily prepping for the show. Patrick and Patrick took us through some of their creative process and gave us a preview of the multimedia paintings which are so heavy that steel stands had to be specially constructed, giving the work what the artist describe as a “sculptural element.”
