The Great South Bronx Beer Heist

March 4, 2013 | Andy Cush

If you’re a drinker, chances are there’s been a time when you’ve walked past a beer truck or warehouse and idly wondered how easy it would be t0 rip it off for all the booze you’d like. If you’re like most people, chances are the thought left your head as quickly as it appeared and you continued walking.

Charles Dandrea, a 52-year-old security guard, actualized that fantasy, coordinating an operation in which a crew of five people regularly showed up at the Hunts Point warehouse where Dandrea worked and stole thousands of dollars worth of Budweiser and other beer. Dandera turned an almost literal blind eye to the proceedings, rotating security cameras so that his collaborators wouldn’t be seen.

When all was said and done, the group had stolen over $100,000 dollars worth of product, and when cops finally nabbed them, they had six bags of weed in their truck as well. In all likelihood, they were planning on reselling everything, but it’s much more fun to imagine the gang was simply stocking up for a really great party.
