Your Daily Fix of Abstract Petri Dish Art

March 5, 2013 | Julia Dawidowicz

San Fransisco artist Klari Reis created these vivid abstract paintings, using petri dishes as her canvases. The colorful, psychedelic patterns do have a certain bacterial quality to them, and seem to have been inspired by the biological roots of their cylindrical homes. The range of depth and texture she manages to pull of within the plexiglass walls of the petri dish is pretty impressive.

An extension of the artist’s 2009 series, for this project, called Daily Dish 2013, Reis has vowed to bring us a new one of these daily for all of 2013. Check back regularly to see what other explosive variations she comes up with, along with their always-amusing titles, from Disproportionate Pizza from the Unknown to Uma Therman.
