Thousands of Cheap Vinyls Up for Grabs at a New York Public Library

August 6, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

Beginning this Thursday, the Rodgers and Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound of the New York Public Library will be having a record sale, with over 22,000 donated vinyls up for grabs.

The purpose of this sale is to make room for future donations (many of the albums for sale are already currently owned by the archives) and to fundraise. The organization hasn’t had a record sale this substantial since their first duplicate record sale in 1984, which raised $14,750 to support the activities of the archive.

Leading up to the sale, the group has been posting periodic updates on their Facebook and Tumblr pages showing several examples of what exactly is for sale, and offering to put select items aside for eager customers. It’s cash only up to $100, so either stop by an ATM or a crate store before heading in.
