Meet the Vigilante Animal Rescuer of Madison Square Park

August 16, 2013 | Aymann Ismail

On an early Thursday morning, I met Carlos Rodriguez by the dog run at Madison Square Park in Manhattan. The vigilante animal rescuer has been coming here almost every day for the past three years, picking up maimed and abandoned animals — dogs, cats, baby squirrels, even a rooster and a genie hen. He rehabilitates them at his house and then finds them homes or releases them back into the “wild” of NYC, depending on their level of domesticity. To take a walk with Carlos on his beat, watch the video above. (Video: Yossera LaBouch/ANIMALNewYork)
