Where to Watch Friday’s NASA Rocket Launch

September 4, 2013 | Andy Cush

Friday evening, NASA will begin its next mission to the moon, launching an unmanned spacecraft with the hopes of studying the satellite’s atmosphere and surface dust. And though the launch, scheduled for 11:27PM, is happening at the Wallops Flight Center on Virginia’s eastern shore, in the right conditions, it may be possible to see it from New York. Rocket scientist Carlos Niederstrasser created these images of the flight path from potential viewing points around the east coast.

NYC’s spots are limited to Battery Park and the top of the Empire State Building, as far as we know–but still, it looks like you may get a pretty clear view. Alternately, you could just watch a livestream here.
