Your MoMA Field Recording Portal Is Now Open

August 15, 2013 | Marina Galperina

The Museum of Modern Art’s sound art exhibit opened over the weekend and now, the exhibit “Soundings” website has gone live. It features in-depth profiles and works from the exhibiting artists, including embedded sounds (of course)… and a section for contributing your own. The sounds are geo-tagged and mapped. To participate, just record your own “daily sonic experience” straight into their Soundcloud dropbox.

So far there aren’t many contributions at all but I can’t wait for the world, especially New York. I’m going to do my neighborhood bar tonight. Put it on that map. It’s going to be great.

You’re not Jacob Kirkegaard, so you don’t have abandoned Chernobyl rooms to record, but please do it to it. Speaking of, Kirkegaard’s immersive live sound art event this Friday at Eyebeam sold out, so they added another one later that night.

And go to the MoMA. This is Tristan Perich’s Microtonal Wall. So good.
