Check Out These Very Customized, 3D-Printed, Wireless Earbuds

July 18, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

OwnPhones is developing highly personalized 3D-printed wireless earbuds. The process is shockingly simple — the pattern for the earbuds will be created with “Photogrammetry,” a method that uses photo and video images to create a 3D model. All OwnPhones needs is a short video of your ears to create custom-fitting buds.

What separates OwnPhones from others who are 3D-printing headphones is the complete customization. The earbuds can be made from several materials, and thousands of colors and unique shapes. (This a chance to put mini-sculptures into your years.)

Another interesting feature is a light on the outside that turns red when you are listening to music, and green when you just have your sweet custom earbuds in for fun. This is intended to make office communication easier, letting people know just by looking whether you’re busy or able to talk.

OwnPhones is currently raising money on Kickstarter, with a goal of $250,000 by August 25th. For only $149 you’ll be among the first to receive your own pair of custom earbuds, which are scheduled for delivery in March of 2015.
