Animal Activists Crash Joan Rivers Book Event: She Curses At Them, Tells a Joke

Senior citizen and comedian Joan Rivers was promoting her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva, at the Union Square Barnes & Noble on Monday evening when animal rights activists interrupted a Q&A she was conducting.

At around 8:20PM, a 32-year-old who only wanted to be identified by his first name Rob, asked Rivers why she chooses to wear fur. The crowd immediately broke into boos. Although she wasn’t wearing fur at the time, she does wear it often and is decked out in a fur coat for the cover of the book.

“Let me see what you’re wearing,” said Rivers in video footage obtained by ANIMAL. “You’re absolutely right. Alright I will tell you why. You’re absolutely right.”

Along with fellow animal rights activists Jaime, 33, and Maca, 19, the trio paraded around with graphic images of skinned alive animals and a parody of her book cover, which was altered to show her holding a dead animal with the words “Fur Hag” as if it were written in blood.

“I am totally on your side,” reiterated the potty-mouthed “diva” in the short video.

“You’re not on our side,” quipped Rob.

“Oh shut the fuck up you don’t know what you’re talking about,” snapped Rivers. As they continued to hold up the signs, she told a joke.

“All the fur I wear has been killed over the years and those furs would be lying in a cellar,” she said, and without missing a beat added, “They have gotten to go to the opera.”
