All Charges Dropped Against Man Who Delivered Slap Heard ‘Round the World

November 12, 2014 | Bucky Turco

“Man smacks the soul out of girl on the NY Subway,” was the title given to a video that was posted to YouTube on Saturday and showed a man slapping a woman after she took a swing at him, leading to a subway brawl. They both were arrested, along with two others, all of whom were assholes. The New York Post reports that the charges against Jorge Pena aka the “man in the 8-ball jacket,” have been dropped. According to Pena’s lawyer, Cary London, his client, who spent four nights in jail, was acting in self defense and the authorities agreed. London also said he’s pressing charges against Shanique Campbell, one of the combative young women in the footage, on behalf of Pena.

London credits the video, which has been viewed nearly 4 million times since it was uploaded on November 8, with exonerating his client. “Thank God for smartphones because the DA’s office was able to have all of the information in front of them at an early stage to show that our client did nothing wrong and acted in self-defense,” he said to the paper.
