Mayor De Blasio announced this week that the city will spend $23 million more on arts education and hire 120 more art teachers next year, DNA Info reports.
“The idea here is to take a big step forward toward providing universal arts and culture education. We intend to do more going forward,” De Blasio said about the new program.
Currently, over 400 NYC schools lack art teachers, so this money will go a long way to bring art education to those who had no proper access. Maybe, the change could even help make the art world less homogenous in the future. (Photo: Laura Gilmore)
