Cop Hurt Wrist While Beating Kids Head In, Now On Disability

December 10, 2014 | Rhett Jones

DNAinfo is reporting that officer Evans Mazile, who was recorded brutally hitting a fare-beater with his baton, sustained a wrist injury while he repeatedly assaulted the accused. Both men went to the hospital that night but the officer is the only one who got a paid vacation out of it. Mazile is now on paid leave due to his injury.

According to DNAinfo, Lawson “doubled-up” with his girlfriend when she went through the turnstile at the Myrtle-Broadway subway station. When Officer Mazile ordered Lawson to hand over ID, he reportedly argued, explaining he was on parole and didn’t want to go to jail. That’s when Mazile turned violent:

“Witnesses said he apparently did not like the way he was being spoken to,” the law enforcement said.

Mazile reportedly hit 20 year old Donovan Lawson with such force that blood sprayed on witnesses who were recording the brutal arrest. Somewhere between punching Lawson, macing him, and swing a baton into his head, Mazile hurt his wrist.

The young man accused of screwing the MTA out of $2.50 is now awaiting trial at Rikers Island. He is:

being charged with trespassing, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration and theft in the subway incident, Lawson is on parole for a Feb. 4, 2013 robbery in Brooklyn where he repeatedly punched and pulled a BB gun on a victim before stealing cash and an iPhone, according to court records.

The officer is on paid leave due to his injury, not because of misconduct. Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson is currently deciding whether there is enough evidence of wrong doing to possibly present to a grand jury who would decide whether there’s enough evidence for a trial that would probably just clear Mazile of any wrong doing anyway.
