Full On Manhattanhenge Tonight

May 30, 2014 | Marina Galperina

Enthusiasts of taking sunset photos at crowded New York intersections need not worry — you didn’t really miss anything yet. Yesterday’s fake Manhattanhenge was only a “half sun.” Also, it wasn’t visible because of clouds. Today’s real Manhattanhenge is “full sun.”

That means you will actually be seeing the whole ball of the sun appear at 8pm and set at 8:16pm at the edge of the grid, visible mostly from 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th streets and may proceed to flood local internet with your mediocre photos of wow orange light wow #somanhattanhenge.

According to the New York Times, this term that we call this thing was popularized by Neil deGrasse Tyson, because of course it was. The next real Manhattanhenge is July 11th. (Photo: @hbomb)
