Mobile Wallet Company “Isis” Changes Name, Because Of #ISIS

September 3, 2014 | Rhett Jones

Isis Mobile Wallet (not be confused with a band of madmen who are murdering, marauding and decapitating people in Syria and Iraq) has had to change its company name to Softcard, in order to not be associated with a band of madmen who are murdering, marauding and decapitating people in Syria and Iraq.

Keeping up with the name changes of ISIS (the terrorist group) can be tough.

In order, they have been:
– “Al-Qaeda in Iraq” (AQI)
– “ISIL” (what the White House still calls them)
– “ISIS” (which somehow sounds very G.I. Joe villain-esque and seems to have stuck in the public consciousness most)
– “IS” aka “The Islamic State”

ISIS (the terrorist group) is really good at branding — so good, they’ve usurped a flag that’s been around since the time of the prophet — so if your company happens to fall victim to having the same acronym, it’s probably a smart idea to get out of their way. On that note, ANIMAL has reached out to Intersil, who is traded on the NASDAQ as ISIL to see if they have any plans on changing. We’ll update if they get back to us.
