NYPD Finally Notices Someone Climbing The Brooklyn Bridge

UPDATE: Yaroslav Kolchin is being held on $5,000 bail and is facing charges of reckless endangerment and trespassing

After two German artists replaced the American flags on the Brooklyn Bridge earlier in the summer, undetected by the police, the NYPD have finally caught someone trespassing on the historic bridge. According to the AP24-year-old Yaroslav Kolchin was spotted scaling a support beam from the Brooklyn side.

The incident prompted a response from police teams on the ground as well as from the harbor and aviation unit.

“A uniformed sergeant observed the individual climbing the cable beam and broadcasted the suspect’s description and location over the police radio,” a police statement said.

The suspect reached the top of the tower where he walked back and forth and “took photos with his iPhone,” police said.

An NYPD helicopter hovered next to Kolchin while he was on the bridge. When he climbed down, he was arrested. No one was injured and no damage was done to the structure. (Photo: Wikipedia
