It was only a matter of time until the authorities came down to kill our Phrosties buzz. The State Liquor Authority, with the support of anti-partying Senator Chuck Schumer, is now investigating the icy drinks.
“The SLA is looking into the illegal sale of this unregistered and potentially dangerous alcoholic drink by an unlicensed business,” SLA’s director of public affairs, Bill Crowley, told the NY Post. God forbid the public consume alcohol that could be “dangerous.”
“A 12-year-old can probably buy these ‘sloshies’ online, get it and enjoy it because it’s filled with fruit juice and fruit punch and all the things that taste sweet and nice,” Schumer said at a press conference yesterday.
Phrosties are only purchasable via a locked Instagram account and can be delivered to anywhere in the city, much like other illegal substances, if you’ve been referred. This may keep them around for a little longer, as long as the people running the business are willing to take the risk of getting caught. According to the SLA, due to Phrosties illegal nature, their regulation would fall under the authority of the NYPD.
For now, the Phrosties Instagram account has been scrubbed of photos and contact information. We can only pray it doesn’t go the way of Four Loko.
