Proof That New York Airports Are The Worst

January 10, 2014 | Andy Cush

In a week of record low temperatures and subsequent airline delays across the country, no flights were more fucked up than those coming out of LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark. A study conducted by the Global Gateway Alliance found that almost 60% of all in- and outbound flights at the three airports were delayed during the polar vortex, making the NYC metro area the worst region in the country at getting flights off on time. It nearly lead the country in cancellations as well, coming in only behind Chicago.

“The rampant cancellations and delays we saw this week in New York and across the country are a wake-up call for leadership to start focusing on better airports,” said Joseph Sitt, founder and chairman of the Global Gateway Alliance.

In his State of the State address this week, Governor Andrew Cuomo called for New York’s airports to be taken out of the hands of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and placed in control of the state government. Given their performance this week, maybe that’s not such a bad idea.
