This Stop and Frisk Tee is Perfect for Those Nostalgic for Tone-Deaf Bloomberg Days

Das Racist, the beloved Brooklyn hip-hop group, may be no more, but former member Dapwell is keeping busy and still hilarious. For just one of his many projects, he’s printing stop-and-frisk shirts featuring our former mayor and his infamous statement that the NYPD “disproportionately stop whites too much and minorities too little.” At the time, 91% of those subjected to the controversial tactic were minorities.

In 2013, Bloomberg told a journalist that complaints about the stop-and-frisk practice were bullshit because minorities commit the crimes. Take it from here Mike:

One newspaper and one news service, they just keep saying, ‘Oh, it’s a disproportionate percentage of a particular ethnic group.’ That may be. But it’s not a disproportionate percentage of those who witnesses and victims describe as committing the murders.

Then-mayoral candidate, Bill de Blasio, called Bloomberg’s statements “outrageous and out of touch.” Since taking office, the de Blasio administration has pushed for reforms to stop-and-frisk and the number of instances have dropped. However, the proportion of minorities being stopped remains unchanged. That’s racist. (Photo: Dapwell)
