Listen In: Red Baraat Made You A Playlist

February 11, 2015 | Prachi Gupta

“Listen In” is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging. Click the big play button above to hear the whole playlist or scroll down to see and hear individual tracks.

This week’s playlist comes to you from Sunny Jain, leader of Brooklyn’s extremely danceable bhangra ‘n brass band Red Baraat. Since 2008, Jain and his fellow beat-makers have gained global notoriety for their eclectic fusion of Punjabi, funk, hip-hop, electronic, and rock music. Upon the release of Red Baraat’s new LP Gaadi Of Truth, the band has embarked on an international tour, hitting stops across America and Europe. They’re also launching their fourth annual Festival of Color, a collaboration featuring South Asian artists and filmmakers to celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi. You can check them out in New York on March 7 at the Bowery Ballroom and at the Brooklyn Bowl on March 8. Until then, mellow out with these tunes.
