NYC Hiring 1,300 New Cops To Fight Lowest Crime In City’s History

July 3, 2015 | Liam Mathews

The Daily News reports that after the most peaceful June on record, the NYPD is on pace to see less than 100,000 felony crimes for the first time in the department’s history in 2015.

“This month’s historically low crime stats and declining CCRB complaints make it clear: we can bring police and community closer together while keeping New York City the safest big city in America,” Mayor de Blasio said in a statement.

There have been 16 more murders in 2015 compared to this same time period in 2014, but all other felony crimes except rape are down, and it’s actually encouraging that more rapes are being recorded, because that means they’re being reported as opposed to going unspoken. All crimes are way down since 1993, when CompStat was instituted.

Despite the historically low crime rate, the NYPD will be hiring 1,300 more cops next year, because apparently that makes sense to do.
