The most romantic Valentine’s Day date in the city is not getting prime seats at some highly acclaimed Broadway play, but a tour of a sewage plant in Greenpoint.
The Newton Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Greenpoint, known for its design and two large, silver digester eggs, offers tours of its space age-looking facility. People who go on the tours have a chance to get on top of the iconic digester eggs, which offers clear views of the Manhattan skyline. It has become one of the most popular destinations for love birds during the fake holiday.
From Capital New York:
“Since 2012, hundreds of couples and others celebrating Valentine’s Day have visited the plant to learn about New York City’s water supply and wastewater systems, while enjoying scenic views of the New York skyline from atop Newtown Creek’s iconic stainless steel digester eggs,” the city Department of Environmental Protection said Wednesday in a statement.
So far, almost 200 requests have been made to join one of the three tours the facility is offering on Valentines Day. Space is (obviously) limited.
