As part of a new initiative, NYPD Police Commissioner Bill Bratton on Tuesday unveiled the latest in high tech, state-of-the-art policing: a ginormous van that will put suspects on blast by rolling video of them on side-mounted screens.
“A specific benefit is the idea of having this right at the scene of a crime, and being able to push out, very quickly, information to the public,” Bratton said. “Even after the crime has occurred, for hours thereafter.”
“This video piece right here will go a long way,” said Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce. “So you can imagine the next night, or even on the same day, this van pulling up, showing images that we just downloaded from nearby cameras to a community that walks by there every day. That’s the point of this. We expect great things from it.”
