The Bronx Zoo’s Baby Gelada Is Cute, But Seems Annoying

April 23, 2015 | Liam Mathews

The gelada is a primate that’s closely related to a baboon but doesn’t have a big red swollen ass (instead it has a crazy-looking red flesh patch on its chest like a Sneetch). The Bronx Zoo has a collection of geladas, and its newest, youngest member just made its public debut, NBC New York reports. The young male gelada, the first born in the United States in 13 years, was born in the fall, but wasn’t placed in the exhibit until this week.

The Wildlife Conservation Society released the above video of the Old World monkey playing in its enclosure, running around and jumping off of stuff and generally being a pest while the older geladas are just trying to eat some grass in peace. At one point he runs up and bites his mother on the leg, like “pay attention to me!” He reminds me of my little brother when he was at his most annoying. I’m glad I don’t live in the gelada exhibit with him. I’d get tired of him real fast.
