Watches are a thing that still exist, but not everyone wants or needs a microcomputer on their wrist to read them text messages or tell them how many steps to take in a day. They want a device that exudes craftsmanship and personality. They also want something that simply tells them the time, in style.

For the debut episode of “Human,” a new web series from Uproxx that profiles the lives of innovative people, the site shined its lens on Cameron Weiss. The Swiss-trained American has been singlehandedly trying to resuscitate the lost art of watchmaking in the United States, which has been in serious decline since the end of World War II. Weiss hopes to change the way people think about horology, the science of measuring time, through good ol’ fashioned handiwork.
