Art Contest to Make Times Square/Herald Square Plazas Less Tacky

I♥NY. Where else would people be going giggity about being able to eat their lunch in a cloud of cab farts? In all seriousness, those plazas at Times Square and Herald Square are nifty. But ugly. Perhaps, not for long.

King Bloomberg announces the reNEWable Times Square art contest! Since the city is making permanent those mall-esque pedestrian pens where midtown traffic jams used to be, it’s time to get crafty. Design a make-over by April 16 for a $15,000 prize and eight months of public display (starting July). Ideas, anyone?
