The yard sale-like painting Team Banksy bought for $50 from a charitable thrift shop in Manhattan, only to return it back about two weeks later with an embellishment by the renowned British street artist, has just sold for $615,000. Banksy added a Nazi officer to the otherwise pastoral artwork that he retitled “The Banality of the Banality of Evil.” It was revealed on day 29 of his Better Out Than In exhibit that just ended today.

The painting was auctioned online to benefit Housing Works, “a New York City based non-profit fighting the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness,” and 138 bids later, it sold to someone with the handle “gorpetri” at 8PM this evening. UPDATE: The top bidder flaked and the painting was eventually sold for $450,000.
