Charges Dropped Against Photographer Who Was Wearing A Ring, Not Brass Knuckles

Prosecutors have dropped the case against Brooklyn fashion photographer Andre Perry, who on November 17 was arrested for wearing what police thought were brass knuckles. The ring was a gold 2-finger Dallas & Dynasty ring that Perry says he bought at a flea market.

DNAinfo reports that Perry, 32, “was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and had to spend a night in jail,” at the time of the arrest, despite having told officers that the item was jewelry. He says that he has worn the ring through airport security and around the city without incident.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office seems to agree that the ring is just a ring:

“After an investigation which included inspecting the knuckles that the [defendant] was wearing at the time of the arrest, speaking with the [arresting officer], interviewing the defendant, reviewing case law and based on the fact that the [defendant] has no criminal record in the State of New York, the People move to dismiss the case in the interest of justice,” an assistant district attorney said during Perry’s Jan. 13 hearing.
