City’s Latest Statistics on Smoking Prove We No Longer Need a Ban

Last week, Mayor Bloomberg proudly announced that the percentage of smokers in the city has dipped to an all time low of 14 percent, based on statistics that weren’t included in the press release. Assuming those numbers are indeed real, it begs the question: Why do we even need a public smoking ban if no one’s smoking?

After all, it’s being reported that only a few people have been cited in the past few months for flouting the law anyway.

If the pool of smokers has shrunk so drastically, that means even less smoke and with the rate of dissipation in open areas, secondhand smoke has been rendered virtually harmless, right?
