Collectors Of Weird Things To Gather At Brooklyn Historical Society

July 17, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

The annual Collector’s Night takes place at the Brooklyn Historical society takes place tonight, featuring every clock shown in the opening credits of Back To The Future and “hundreds of pins representative of every presidential candidate in both the primary and the general elections since 1896.” One collector is bringing 600 disco shirts. Another has a number of somewhat disquieting Snow White figurines. And we can only guess what goes through the mind of the woman who collects cockroach legs that are left over from her cat’s rein of entomological terror.

“It’s an event for us collectors to get together and say, ‘Hey, we’re normal,’ ” Bill Scanga, president of the City Reliquary told the New York Times. The event allows these eccentric collectors to get together without the threat of judgement from those who have seen too many episodes of Hoarders.
