Artists Will Ride a Wheel Contraption Into a Vat of “Gold”

11.14.12 Marina Galperina

New York’s “most unboring” performance artist duo Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw are good at spectacle. Tonight at Allegra LaViola gallery, they’re going to strap themselves into a dangerous-looking DIY carousel wheel that is going to spin and repeatedly, continuously dip them into a vat of golden liquid. Jen tells Art Fag City:

“We’re literally gilding ourselves with precious metals. Our performances are a tongue-in-cheek way of saying we’re bored by the art world.”

The artists sent us some test footage of the machine:

Check out of the artists’ newest collages, sent fresh from the gallery. Entitled, in order: Vladimir Putin Feeds the Pigeons Even Though He (Correctly) Suspects They are Mocking Him, Napoleon Turns 244, Happy Birthday Napoleon!, Jen and Paul Anoint a Potential Important Revolutionary, and Liberty Leading Some People Some Where.

You should come. They’re good at winning. Remember how they won the Creative Time’s Sandcastle Competition? Does Paul Outlaw look familiar from the Art Handling Olympics? And tonight… “We will be performing, you will be performing, it will be quite a spectacle.” Want more? Here’s some prior spectacle:

“Super Supra Diluvian,” Jennifer Catron and Paul Outlaw, Performance Nov 14 6:00-8:30pm, Allegra LaViola, Brooklyn
