“Cuphead” Video Game Looks Like a 1930’s Cartoon

June 23, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

Cuphead — a new game developed by Studio MDHR, announced at the recent E3 conference — exists totally in an hand-drawn style reminiscent of 1930’s cartoons. Authenticity is provided by “taking the time to use actual cells and is inking by hand,” Daily Dot writes.

The game allows you to play as Cuphead or Mugman, while you battle bosses like Popeye-style sailor Captain Silver and live recorded jazz plays in the background.

The game will be released on Steam later this year and then Xbox, but MDHR is working on getting even more vintage, by releasing the game as a cartridge for the Sega Master System, so you’ll get to feel what it’d be like to play a 1930’s video game in the 80’s. Whoa.
