Death Train Rush Hour: Graphite Art by Laurie Lipton

09.29.11 Marina Galperina

“Death is as forbidden a topic in modern society as sex was in Victorian England,” says US re-pat Laurie Lipton. After her mother’s anti-climatic cremation, she was looking for a little ceremony to death and found it in the culture kitsch of Día de los Muertos.

Her insanely detailed, cross-hatch graphite pieces of commuter skeletons, bare-skulled aristocrats and undead babies are coming to “The Carnival Of Death,” Laurie Lipton, Oct 1 – Oct 23, Last Rites Gallery, NYC
