Egypt’s Antiquities Dictator Resigns

Just yesterday, I speculated about how long Egypt’s ruler of the Great Pyramids, Zawi Hawass would last and less than 24 hours later the answer emerges: not long! According to the Times, the fiercely nationalistic custodian of the country’s antiquities resigned on Thursday and will not be joining the new government—it’s just not as fun with Mubarak gone. Looming criticisms and accusations of massive corruption may also have motivated his departure.
