French Tourist Who Climbed Brooklyn Bridge Gets Sentenced

December 10, 2014 | Rhett Jones

Yonathan Souid, a tourist from France who was caught climbing the Brooklyn Bridge last month, has been sentenced to 240 hours of community service. Specifically, he’ll have to spend that time cleaning the Manhattan Detention Center.

Souid said he climbed the bridge because of his passion for photography. When cops first arrested him he claimed to be a journalist — that was found to be false.

After multiple high profile incidents involving bridge climbers, there has been extra pressure to stop urban explorers. Souid’s lawyer tells NBC that the passionate photographer “prefers cleaning a jail than to actually live in one.”
