Graffiti Art Exceeds Estimates at Auction

Last week we mentioned some of the work being offered at Phillips de Pury’s 80s auction, but had no idea how over much it would sell for. Most of the graffiti art being offered sold for more than its estimated price. A FUTURA painting that was expected to fetch between $25,000-35,000 went for $56,250 while a lot of six bombed NYC subway maps by COPE2, GHOST, and T-KID reached a final bid of $16,250 which is about $2000 more per map than what similar versions are currently selling for on Dirty Pilot.com.

So, here’s our suggestions from the same writers that will save art buyers around $12,000 or so unless they of course, prefer the premium that comes with waving a paddle:

Total cost: $4,150
Total savings: $12,100
