This Saturday night, Brooklyn’s net art gallery Transfer is holding the anticipated opening for artist A. Bill Miller’s “Gridworks,” combining “coldness and rationality of the grid confronts the warmth and playfulness of the human touch” with a series of new ASCII-based works. His visuals are entrancing, so we’re excited.
The curators tell ANIMAL that A. Bill Miller will also be doing a special live performance, combining a a live video feed from a camera that is focused on a projection field, generating “a feedback loop as ASCII art.” When Gridworks is performed live, the artist manipulates audio samples while the visual characteristics change. In previous performances, any visitor who passed between the projection field and the camera was “incorporated into the feedback loop.” This time, A. Bill Miller will be using his wall-drawings to catalyst the glitch cycle. Trippy.
Special note: Just like at Alexandra Gorczynski’s inaugural Transfer opening, we’re expecting a packed house of people who don’t just saunter off home at sundown to sleep. And so, there will be an after party for the opening at Alaska Bar on Ingraham Street, featuring projections of video art by A. Bill Miller, Alexandra Gorczynski, Rollin Leonard and more artists.
