Guy Shooting Laser Beam at Aircrafts Arrested, Injures Cops and Several Pilots

Pointing lasers at planes might sound like a dumb prank, but it’s an arrestable offense. Let the story of 36-year-old Frank Egan be a cautionary tale to anyone considering it: From inside the third-story apartment where he lives with his mom, Egan pointed his Laser 303 at aircrafts on the La Guardia Airport runway on Monday night and ended up injuring several people. He was promptly arrested.

DNAinfo reports that Egan’s beam hit three airplane pilots in two planes and two police officers in an NYPD helicopter. The officers were treated for eye irritation in New York, while one Air Canada pilot was treated in Toronto.

The FAA saw the beam and reported it to the NYPD. Cops from the 45th Precinct eventually got to Egan’s home, where he confessed to the crime. According to police, Egan “was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer, assault, menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.”
