Here’s Why You Should Never Drink in New Jersey

May 24, 2013 | Andy Cush

You’re forgiven for traveling to New Jersey for weed–maybe you or someone you know has a medical card and you’d like to hit up the Green Leaf Compassion Center. Totally understandable. Just don’t give in to the temptation to have a drink while you’re there. State authorities claim no fewer than 29 New Jersey restaurants–including 13 T.G.I. Fridays–have substituted inexpensive liquor, dirty water, and–no joke–caramel-colored rubbing alcohol in for premium booze, and charged top-dollar for their concoctions. Authorities raided the restuarants this week as part of a year-long investigation dubbed Operation Swill, and seized 1,000 bottles of liquor. Makes NYC’s too-small pints of beer “problem” seem downright quaint by comparison, doesn’t it?
