Hustler Club Dancers Suing Over Minimum Wage

February 23, 2015 | Prachi Gupta

A lawsuit brought against Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club alleges that dancers are being stiffed of minimum wage and tips. The New York Post reports that the claim says that dancers are illegally classified as “independent contractors” rather than as employees, which prevents them from making minimum wage. The suit also argues that dancers are missing out on tips because customers are urged to use pre-paid vouchers over cash.

The suit may include hundreds of the club’s dancers. From the Post:

The dancers’ lawyer, Justin Swartz, told The Post the club “has refused to clean up its act” even though other jiggle joints in the city have been forced to cough up multimillion-dollar payouts for similar violations.

Swartz says more than 1,000 current and former Hustler Club dancers could be eligible to join the class-action claim.

The suit comes just months after Larry Flynt’s Las Vegas Hustler Club was among six adult night clubs accused of denying fair pay to workers.
