Many opponents of an Islamic cultural center in lower Manhattan say it’s way too close to the hallowed ground surrounding the WTC site and so the New York Times’ Clyde Haberman explores just how far that “elastic” boundary extends. He also notes how two blocks can mean a world of difference in Manhattan. Of course, this really has nothing to do with distance, with many Americans opposing mosques whether they’re in Sheepshead Bay or Texas.
