KAWS’ Big, Floaty Street Art

The surreal ritual whereby giant corporate mascots and children’s characters are floated above the streets of Manhattan with the hopes of delighting kids while not knocking down light poles on top of them, or their parents, happened yesterday. As we’ve mentioned, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade included an entry by KAWS, which represents a bit of a coup for street art, whether you’re bored by his XX-marked work or not. Here’s what the giant balloon looked like IRL. It was far less scandalous than the public intimacy Spider-Man and Uncle Sam were engaged in the night before. (Photo: thegirlsny/Flickr)
