dmz Way back in 1953, after a major 3 year war (that was really between the U.S. and the Soviet Union), Kim Il-sung, father of North Korea and current leader Kim Jong-il, signed a peace accord with South Korea that has been affect for almost 6 decades, until today. North Korea has officially cut all its ties to South Korea after officials in Seoul announced sanctions against Pyongyang for the March torpedoing of one of their warships, a charge they still deny, putting both countries at what must be DEFCON 2 status.
