Liars Made a Music Video With the Open Source RGBD Toolkit
and You Can Too!

Did you just see that amazing new Liars video for “The Exact Color of Doubt” directed by Markus Wambsganss off their WIXIW album?  It’s so good. “It fits the album,” our resident music expert Andy Cush says. “It’s about extracting the humanity out of digital sounds.”

Liars. That’s a big deal. It’s nice to see these visuals again. Hey, you want to try? You can.

The trippy digital animations are based off this open source RGBD tool kit created by Jonathan Minard, James George and Alexander Porter, seen in Minard and Geroge’s experimental new media documentary CLOUDS. It’s a Kinect hack using a DSLR camera and RGBD open source software. The Unstoppable Death Machines just used it for their video for “Trial and Error,” dropped in some vibrant bursting glitches and called out the kit.

ANIMAL asked Jonathan Minard about how the CLOUDS team feels that the Liars are using their open source kit. “It’s completely cool with us!” We figured.
