Lindsay Lohan Is Suing Over Alleged Grand Theft Auto V Parody

Lindsay Lohan is suing Rockstar Games and their owner Take Two Interactive over allegedly parodying her in Grand Theft Auto V. The video clip below shows the character Lacey Jonas, who Lindsay Lohan believes is an “unequivocal” representation of herself, according to the AP.

It’s pretty hard to watch: “Jonas” is trapped in a paparazzi situation that our “hero” is tasked with saving her from. She complains about paparazzi seeing her without make up, talks incessantly in a whiny high pitched voice and shakes her hands like they’re about to fall off.

A recent video in Anita Sarkeesian’s “Tropes Vs. Women In Video Games” series focused on Grand Theft Auto as one of the leading games allowing characters to enact violence on women without consequences, featuring women as “background decoration” or sex objects completely devoid of character development. Whether this character was specifically based on Lindsay Lohan or not, it’s a good representation of GTA’s overall attitude towards the female non-playable characters in their games, who are nearly always without any agency of their own.
