Listen In: The Juan MacLean Made You A Playlist

October 7, 2014 | Rhett Jones

“Listen In” is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging. Click the big play button above to hear the whole playlist or scroll down to see and hear individual tracks.

Today’s playlist comes to you from Nancy Whang who, with John MacLean, makes rump-shaking electro-disco music as The Juan MacLean. Their new album “In A Dream” was just last month on DFA records. DFA was founded by James Murphy, frontman of Whang’s former band LCD Soundsystem, so you know you can count on this playlist and the new record to kill it on the dance floor. Whang has served up some killer ’80s New Wave, Industrial, No Wave and whatever it is you want to classify Kate Bush as.

Robert Palmer, “Johnny and Mary”

Eurythmics, “Love Is A Stranger”

Siouxsie & The Banshees, “Happy House”

Bill Nelson, “Do You Dream In Colour?”

La Bionda, “I Wanna Be Your Lover”

The Human League, “Being Boiled”

Ministry, “Same Old Madness”

Talking Heads, “10 Born Under Punches”

Chrome, “In A Dream”

Kate Bush, “Wuthering Heights”
