Listen In: Pink Mountaintops Made You A Playlist

July 22, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

Listen In” is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging. Click the big play button above to hear the whole playlist or scroll down to see and hear individual tracks.

Stephen McBean of Black Mountain has pulled some of the best talent to collaborate on his project Pink Mountaintops over the years. At various times, his band has included members of Godspeed! You Back Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Cat Power  and Black Angels. The his folky psychedelia sounds at home on his new album Get Back, appropriately sprinkled with references to great music of the past. You can hear the influence of legendary acts like the Television Personalities and his affinity with modern ones like Marissa Nadler, who also put out a great album this year. Feel the vibes.
