Listen In: Tacocat Made You A Playlist

July 15, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

Listen In“ is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging. Click the big play button above to hear the whole playlist or scroll down to see and hear individual tracks.

High-fructose Seattle grunge-pop quartet Tacocat released their first LP, NVM on Hardly Art earlier this year (yes, it’s a Nirvana joke). Tacocat are one of the funnest bands we know, with songs that perfectly match their ecstatic aesthetic; life is all weed, candy and period jokes for these garage rockers. Their mixtape for ANIMAL incorporates their diverse but predictable influences, almost all of which are either from 2011 or 1994. The brattiness of early Green Day meets peak Miley Cyrus, mixed with a good dose of “drag terrorist” Chisteene. They’ve also taken this chance to showcase a few up and coming bands we’ll probably be jumping around to in the near future, like fellow Northwest pop deviants CHILDBIRTH and Pony Time. Save these tunes for a crazy night in with your best friends, a few choice substances and a good bed for jumping on.
