Los Angeles Gov Gets Into Æsthetics

Los Angeles has a problem: “Fine art murals have been made indistinguishable from billboards” because of illegal billboard and supergraphics overload (and perhaps, murals that look like ads?) As part of a crackdown on “signs” of all kinds, hundreds of murals have been buffed since 2007.

A moratorium on buffing is being discussed until a formal “process establishing the legality of installation of fine art murals on private property” is implemented by September, hopefully.

But before that, they have to figure out what “art” is. Good luck.
