The Dance of Reality (2013)

El Topo Holy Mountain ☆ film-legend-bro☆ makes 1st feature in 23 years. (Read our interview: “One day I say, I need to make the most mystical scene, a scene that will be very heavy because you are dying, and your woman will ask you to allow her to send the water of faith through her body and she will PISS IN YOUR FACE!”) And it’s like DAMN

MOMMY/DADDY ISSUES: 4.5 out of 5.0

That’s his mother-character pissing in his father-character ‘s face who is played by his actual son while his mother-character sings every line because his actual asshole father was so discouraged her artistically. That’s some sweet catharsis through sublimation of family abuse history right there. Your therapist is jealous.

MYSTICISM: 3.5 out of 5.0

There is so much political intrigue in his father trying_trying_trying to assassinate Carlos Ibáñez and the anarchists and the fascists and the white horse visions and the testicle electrocutions and what the fuck is going on even. It could almost happen. It could almost be .。.:*・real*:.。.  Really, it’s like if Guernica was funny.

JODO: 5.5 out of 5.0

(/•ิ_•ิ)/ Jodo jodo-ed the Jodo-est Jodo ever. It’s so opulent in its psycho-visual tapestry and earnest in its mind-self-fuckery that we can’t think too hard about whether that one scene counts as blackface even. So Jodo.
